In June 2021, it was announced that GOSI, the General Organization for Social Insurance, and the PPA, the Public Pension Agency, will merge to create one state-run general insurance and pension fund. The merger follows a trend within Saudi Arabia and elsewhere in the Gulf where assets and funds are being consolidated to boost performance, reduce costs and increase efficiency through integration. All responsibilities, powers, rights, obligations, and all types of assets of the Public Pension Agency will be transferred to GOSI. The merger is expected to create a US$ 250 billion fund.
